Quirky Tuesday

Had an argument "ahem" sorry discussion, about the recent flight delays caused by the Iceland Volcano eruption.
Aged Relative: "How come a Volcano in Iceland is stopping flight leaving here - no way the smoke has reached Australia"
Me: "It's landing at the other end in Europe that is causing the problems"
AR: "Well, how come it's causing problems, they can usually fly in fog unless it's REALLY bad"
Me: "Maybe it's REALLY bad....."
AR: "Didn't look really bad in those clips they just shown on the TV, anyway isn't that what they have Radar for?"

It is here that I gave up continuing the discussion, as this picture came to mind:

While "researching" this post (I.e checking MSN for a news link) I came across this AWESOME photo:

I really really wish that I could embed this in to my blog but I have no idea how to do it, however this is the best driving game I have seen in a long time. Click on the link and I defy you NOT to laugh!

Unusual Hobby Books

Under the heading "Stuffed Animals" I found this:
Practical Taxidermy by Montague Browne
Not quite the stuffed animals I had in mind......  and what makes Taxidermy "practical"?

Building Bots by William Gurstelle
Designing and building Warrior Robots.  When building just any old robot is just not enough!

Prefer something a bit naughtier?  what about...
Forbidden Lego, by Mike Dooley & Ulrik Pilegaard

Forbidden Lego introduces you to the type of free-style building that LEGO's master builders do for fun in the back room (!!!!)

Words that make me go Hmmmmm (or EEeeeeeewww!)
  • Engorged
  • Plump
  • Panties
  • Crouch
  • Licorice
p.s: if you're wondering why I cringe at these words, go to google and search for images using the word. I rest my case - except for Crouch - that's just plain weird!

Happy Australia Day Everyone!

(Oh, and for those thinking I am irresponsible for letting my son drink beer - it's actually lemonade in a beer bottle.)

Quirky Tuesday

I am bored, so so very bored, and lacking in inspiration for quirky posts.
I googled Boredom at work: here's my top picks!

The Top 5 tips for everything: How to Relieve Boredom - includes a recommendation to blog when you're bored, and a wonderful fun idea of Randomail!

E-How - includes Office Pilates, and a few great jokes to prank your co-workers with.

If you're REALLY desperate, try Area 51 - but beware, you may get institutionalised for this type of behaviour.  My favourite:  "Put your head in a candy floss machine...see what happens.!"

Quirky Tuesday

I google a lot... mostly for info, research and for photos that go with my posts, and I love it when I come up with interesting pics completely off topic.

This photo came up on a search for "Lake Walk"

Obviously I was "intrigued" enough to click (my inner 12 yr old giggling), and I discovered this site.

My favourite activity:
Interclub sports: A day of fun activities with other clubs invited. This has included blind tent erecting (!!!!), various complicated sports with balloons held between the legs or passing balls without touching them with your hands, you probably get the picture here, undignified but fun.

Oh, and another favourite, this time a quote from the site:
"...a public reserve near to the club grounds at Sutton, nobody seems to mind a few naked ramblers there."

Quirky Tuesday

19 of the most ridiculous complaints made by holidaymakers to their travel agent.
  • "The beach was too sandy."
  • A guest at a Novotel in Australia complained his soup was too thick and strong. He was inadvertently slurping the gravy at the time.
  • "Topless sunbathing on the beach should be banned. The holiday was ruined as my husband spent all day looking at other women."
  • "We bought 'Ray-Ban' sunglasses for five euros (£3.50) from a street trader, only to find out they were fake."
  • "No-one told us there would be fish in the sea. The children were startled."
  • "It took us nine hours to fly home from Jamaica to England it only took the Americans three hours to get home."
  • "My fiancé and I booked a twin-bedded room but we were placed in a double-bedded room. We now hold you responsible for the fact that I find myself pregnant. This would not have happened if you had put us in the room that we booked."
  • "I compared the size of our one-bedroom apartment to our friends' three-bedroom apartment and ours was significantly smaller."
  • "The brochure stated: 'No hairdressers at the accommodation'. we're trainee hairdressers - will we be OK staying here?"
  • "We found the sand was not like the sand in the brochure. Your brochure shows the sand as yellow but it was white."
  • "We had to queue outside with no air conditioning
  • "I was bitten by a mosquito - no-one said they could bite
  • "It's lazy of the local shopkeepers to close in the afternoons. I often needed to buy things during 'siesta' time - this should be banned."
  • "On my holiday to Goa in India, I was disgusted to find that almost every restaurant served curry. I don't like spicy food at all."
  • "We booked an excursion to a water park but no-one told us we had to bring our swimming costumes and towels."

Quirky Tuesday

Pranks to play at Christmas:
  • Put the "lucky penny" in the turkey instead of the Christmas Pud... whoever requires the Hiemlich Maneouvre has won!
  • Decorate the dog's tail with tinsel, then watch him run round for hours trying to get it off.
  • Put the volume to zero on the Queen's speak then sit there and make comments about how wise and wonderful she is while your relatives wonder why then can't hear her.
  • Buy everyone Gifts you know they will hate and award points for the cheesiest fake smiles.
  • Put yellow food dye in ice cubes for drinks and tell guests you used snow from outside.

Quirky Tuesday

This made me laugh out loud when I saw it on Bec's blog, so I thought I would steal it. (getting a habit of mine isn't it!)
