4. Name another use for an L.P. record other than playing it. I was going to frame mine and put them on the wall. I used Cds instead. I hear they make good frisbees too... or table mats maybe? or sushi platters? Hmmmm

Departures and Arrivals

This week has been full on! First Pops passing away, then EXH has another baby girl. One out, one in.
Next week is gonna be even more hectic. Still have to help out in the
family business where I can, as well as tidying up at my "real" job before my 10 days leave I booked. My Dad arrives from Perth on Wednesday... at 11pm at night, the airport being 2-3 hours drive away. That morning I also have my Australian Citizenship Interview, and the next day is Pops Funeral. Then Friday is C's Birthday and the Saturday his friends are coming over for a party.

Forgive me if I don't check in as often as usual ;)

Do you ever get the feeling that the whole thing is changin'? Like
somethin' is coming to an end because somethin' else is beginning?"

Why?

Why does my cat INSIST on sleeping ON my legs at night? It's a Queen Size bed for F**k sake! There's plenty of room on the other side, or even next to me!

Ever tried rolling over when you have a weight on your legs?

R.I.P. Pops

ANTHONY JOSEPH
"TONY"
9/8/1928 - 12/9/2007
Rest In Peace Pops.. your huge heart and vitality will be greatly missed.

Room 101

This week Ants are going into the room!

Horrible nasty pointless things they are... and they get everywhere! The only good thing about them is that it is fun to run your finger across a line of them and watch them try and find the scent again!

Here's a game called antwar if you like!

Quirky Tuesday

This weeks topic is "wanted"
  1. I have always wanted a pet wombat or a black mackaw.
  2. I wanted to play the double bass but when I took lessons I realised I was too small.
  3. I used to want to wear brightly coloured stripey tights but didn't have the courage or the legs to carry them off.

Quirky Tuesday will have a different topic each week, to tell everyone about a quirk / ritual / obsession / routine about that subject. As little or as many as you like if you're playing along at home. (I sound like a game show host!). Readers can meme it on their own blogs or just comment on here. Don't forget to link!

Cool Things I found This Week

Overheard Lines is definitely a blog to check out regularly. Very funny. I would also love to contribute but I am terrible at remembering ones I have heard.. Ya know.. you do the "oh guess what I heard something really funny today... made me laugh out loud... jeez ya should have been there it was hilarious... ah, now what was it again... something to do with... erm...."

I know I am WAY behind the 8 ball here... but I'm still new to this blogging lark ya know! anyways.. I found
del.icio.us a great way to keep all the cool things I find during the week in one place so that when I get round to the weekly roundup I can find it all.

One chick I'm gonna keep checkin out is
Dutch. Sounds like my kinda gal!

Finally, check this out.. thought it was kinds fun... ciao!

Is all this fuss Necessary???

Bush is in town. whoop de doo.. let's throw a party.. or maybe just declare a state wide holiday for a day while he was here... oh ok already done that... well let's go one better.. make it a nationwide holiday.. let's call it National Bush Day!

I saw on
the news this 1 guy needs 700 people to help him get here!
Mr Bush's 700-strong entourage includes Secret Service agents, bodyguards and political advisers. He has brought his own sniffer dogs, a medical team and a personal chef as well as a fleet of 20 cars.
What can 150 bodyguards do that 10 can't?????

We have huge high fences erected... snipers... checkpoints.... police everywhere... but even then...
this happens.

so what is the point of all this security... a deterrant??? It certainly isn't going to stop someone hurting him if they REALLY want to... but then who would be stupid enough to do it when the whole world along with 700 staff is watching him?

Oh, and this is from the same guys that staged the convoy.. enjoy!

Room 101

Things, people, places, situations etc you hate/loathe/dispise/don't like very much belong in Room 101. If you decide to do the same please comment or link as appropriate as I would love to hear yours too.

This week Bob Downe has to go into Room 101.

The polyester lounge suit wearing, large gleaming teeth bearing, big wide bug eyed glaring, cheesy badly sung song sharing "comedian" makes me cringe!

I'm sure the alter ego is a much nicer fella. Here's hoping :)

Goals

Ever since I realised I was well and truly aging I decided to set myself goals of things to do for the year. It actually started out as a $10,000 bet that I could not go a year without drinking alcohol. I did it. I did not get paid as they didn't believe me, but I did it, and I know I did it, and I think deep down the other guy knows it as well, but won't shell out (he can afford it!)
anyhoo... since then I have accomplished:
  1. Obtaining my Boat and Jet Ski licence
  2. Owning a jewellery shop (it's online but I think that counts)
  3. A front garden renovation
  4. A day couse in HTML (I'm still crap tho)
  5. Built my own website (I cheated and bought a template... but I still edited it myself!)
  6. Getting back on a push bike (I have always told myself I couldn't ride a bike.. used to fall off regularly.. I'm still not all that clever)
  7. Had a snake round my neck

This year the main thing on my list was to get my motorbike licence. I have today realised I only have 3 months left before I have officially "failed" For some reason this one scares the bejeeze out of me... mostly cause of no6 above.. I'm scared of looking an idjut in front of the instructor.

So this is my final push. If I write it here I have to do it, otherwise you will ALL know I have failed... and I can't have that!

Room 101

This week writing TXT shorthand in e-mails and blogs is in Room 101.

Example here, taken from a blog. I have made it into a jpeg to protect the innocent. If you can't read it try here..

Text messaging and IM have a lot to answer for. I can accept that to prevent thumb RSI and also due to time and space constraints you would need to abbreviate words... but PLEASE don't do it in blogs, letters or e-mails to people. There is no need... and they are actually harder to read than "long-hand" ones..

Also people who speak in slang also write in slang! Aaaargh that drives me mad. For instance one of the cool things I have previously mentioned is the site Icanhascheezburger.com. Love the site.. love the cute kittys... HATE the captions... deliberately misspelt words... shortened sentences.. make me cringe!

If u rite me ltrs like this. plse do not xpect nice response. U may fink it luks gr8 but it drives me crayzee!

(p.s I may actually be guilty of this occasionally... but only when I am rushed. Do as I say not as I do tee hee..)
(p.p.s actually I am an old-school letter-writing girl... I have adopted the smileys ;) but I still think an ! says so much more than LOL.. cause the more !!!! you have the funnier you are!!!!!!!! oh, and lurve means so much more than just love... don't ya think?)

Things, people, places, situations etc you hate/loathe/dispise/don't like very much belong in Room 101. If you decide to do the same please comment or link as appropriate as I would love to hear yours too.

Quirky Tuesday

This weeks topic is Feet

  1. My second toe is bigger/longer than my "Big" Toe

  2. I enjoy the sensation of having my toes sucked/licked *blush*

  3. I broke 2 toes on my right foot playing basketball (you work it out!)

Monday Meme

I tried being a week behind to compensate for the time difference but started feeling left out... so I'm gonna catch up this week with 2 Music Mambos!

Hello everyone! Welcome to another Mambo. Today is Lemondade Day.Today we're going to make a Musical Lemonade. I'll give ya "The Lemon Song" by Led Zeppelin, so now you tell me a song with the word:
Sugar: "Sugar, Sugar" by The Archies first came to mind
Water: "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple
Ice: "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice
Where do you enjoy lemonade the best? Out on the porch on a hot summer's day. Tell me a song that would be appropriate for such a situation. I always think of "Steal my Sunshine" by Len as being the sound of a hot summers day.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello everyone! Another Monday is here. Today is Compassion Day. Follow these steps for a very compassionate Mambo . . .
1. Choose someone you know, to whom you'd like to dedicate a song. My best mate Wendy.
2. Choose a song to represent your compassion toward that person. Miss You by Everything but the Girl.
3. Explain a little about why you chose the song, if you wish. She still lives in the UK, I'm all the way over here in Oz - 'nuff said ;)

Here's what I found this week:-
  1. My Bloginality is ISFJ!!!
    enough said!
  2. Furry Feet Studios have sheep similar to my "personal assistant" (see this weeks Quirky Tuesday for more info). Furthermore they appear to be able to personalise them... how cool is that!!!
  3. Speaking of sheep... here's a blog dedicated to them.. check out where the sheep will be travelling next!
  4. what the hell.. let's go sheep crazy! Here's Sheepworld which appears to be the home of my assistant George. They have cute E-cards too!

Nosey Neighbour

Being a full time working single mom with a low boredom tolerance and an overactive constant "to do list" in my head, I usually have to go to bed about 10-11pm - any later than that and I start panicking that I will be tired the next day blah blah etc etc.
I usually have to get up in the middle of the night for a pee. First sign of getting old I suppose. Last night for example it was about 1:30am.
My en-suite window faces the house next door. I have a funky silver blind up but I have a slight gap in between 2 of the slats (my nosey hole) Through that gap I can see right into next doors living room. Every time I go to do my half asleep peeing I notice the light on in the living room, and every time WITHOUT FAIL there is a guy there on his computer. He doesn't ever seem to be typing - most of the time he barely even moves. He just stares at the screen, as if reading war and peace e-book.
I never see him any other time. I have never seen him leave the computer. I have never seen him moving about in the house, or travel to or from his home. The only time I see him is the middle of the night, eyes permanently fixed to the screen.
Eerie or what!

Room 101

This week I would like to put Waxing into Room 101.
Whoever decided that this was a good idea should be stoned to death. In particular I refer to the Brazilian which has become popular and a fashion necessity in recent years. I bet the inventor of the brazilian has never had hairs ripped out of his genitals in his life! (couldn't possibly have been a woman who made this fashionable!)

IT HURTS people! and don't let anyone else try to tell you otherwise. Who decided that bare is beautiful? Who decided that women only should remove hair from armpits and legs? Why is it not deemed to be feminine to be au naturale??? I want answers dammit! Someone should be held accountable!!!

(deep breaths......)

Incidently I tried Brazilians for 6 months, and as much as I like feeling cleaner and more hygienic "down there" I could not bare the pain every 6-8 weeks, not to mention the hassling of making sure it's not that time of the month. I have decided to go permanent, and now go to Hair Free. If I must suffer for my vanity then I intend to do it the least painful way I can.

Things, people, places, situations etc you hate/loathe/dispise/don't like very much belong in Room 101. If you decide to do the same please comment or link as appropriate as I would love to hear yours too.

Quirky Tuesday

This weeks topic is "The Office"
  1. I have a collection of coloured paperclips hanging from one of my shelves.
  2. My "assistant" is a sheep called George. (I tried to take a pic for you with my phone but he's blurred)
  3. I like to have a sleep in my car at lunchtimes

Monday Music Mambo

Greetings, everyone! Today is Lefthanders Day. How many of you are left-handed? I'm a righty myself. Today we're going to explore some famous lefties in the world of music.
Name your favorite song by . . .
Jimi Hendrix - Foxy Lady! always makes me wanna growl ;)
Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) - Stairway to Heaven of course!
Paul McCartney (non-Beatles, just to make it harder) - No More Lonely Nights (generally his solo career is less than average...
Billy Corgan (solo, Smashing Pumpkins or Zwan) - Today (It's the only one I really know) :}
Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight - awesome song to listen to really loud on headphones...

Cool Things I Found This Week

IcanHasCheezburger - cute cat pics with cuter captions.. thanx to Infinite Pink for pointing them out.

Jim Steinman's Blog - I grew up with Bat out of Hell (or BOOH as JS affectionately calls it) thanks to my dad. Jim doesn't create just music... he creates epics.

Images Meme - seen it on The Daily Snooze and thought it sounded kinda fun:-

Here's the rules:

  1. Go to Google

  2. Click on Google Images

  3. Type in your name and search

  4. Post (with a link) of the oddest, craziest coolest, oldest, etc. person that shares your name. Post multiples if you find a few that you like.

I knew I was an artist, and a porn star... but appears I am a drag queen too. Oh, and looks like I have been visited by aliens. Trawling through Google find it interesting to note now many Trac(e)y's are artistic. There's 3 of us where I work as well. I keep getting e-mails meant for the Tracy in Canada or the Tracy in the US.

Oops

A girl at work has just made a huge mistake. A humerous one, and one that could happen to everyone, but a huge one just the same. I hope IT & Management take pity on her.

She sent the following e-mail to all company staff, instead of just a select few....

The Day the Penis asked for a Raise

I, the Penis, hereby request a raise in salary for the followingreasons:

  1. I do physical labor.
  2. I work at great depths.
  3. I plunge headfirst into everything I do.
  4. I do not get weekends or public holidays off.
  5. I work in a damp environment.
  6. I work in a dark workplace that has poor ventilation.
  7. I work in high temperatures.
  8. My work exposes me to contagious diseases.

Sincerely,P. Niss

The Response:

Dear Penis:

After assessing your request, and considering the arguments youhave raised, the administration rejects your request for thefollowingreasons:

  1. You do not work 8 hours straight.
  2. You fall asleep after brief work periods.
  3. You do not always follow the orders of the management team.
  4. You do not stay in your designated area and are often seenvisiting other locations.
  5. You do not take initiative - you need to be pressured andstimulated inorder to start working.
  6. You leave the workplace rather messy at the end of your shift.
  7. You don't always observe necessary safety regulations, such aswearing thecorrect protective clothing.
  8. You will retire well before you are 65.
  9. You are unable to work double shifts.
  10. You sometimes leave your designated work area before you have completedassigned task.
  11. And if that were not all, you have been seen constantly enteringand exiting the workplace carrying two suspicious-looking bags.

Sincerely,V. Gina

She's already been forced to send an apology and has attempted to recall the message. Oh, the shame! teehee!

Room 101

I will be putting SPAM in Room 101 today!

No, not the Ham & Pork Hybrid food in a can (save that one for another day.. tee hee) but I mean E-mail Spam. Apart from being downright annoying it is completely and totally useless. If I needed a penis extension I will check the yellow pages or look through the web.. I would certainly not click on some non-descript vulgar e-mail that has been sent from a poor unsuspecting admin clerk's e-mail box. I wonder how much business this crap actually generates??? Actually I don't wanna know. I just want it to stop. At one point I was getting 40 e-mails a day to my business e-mail address offering me viagra, diet pills, penis enlargements, increased sex drive, jobs in US medical industry, russian brides...

ok, maybe I did check out the brides.. ;)

Things, people, places, situations etc you hate/loathe/dispise/don't like very much belong in Room 101. If you decide to do the same please comment or link as appropriate as I would love to hear yours too.

Quirky Tuesday

  1. I have been known to pick my nose while driving cause I think no-one can see me
  2. I will only ever sing in the car
  3. I have had a nickname for every car I have owned. (My current one is Hughie)

Monday Meme

Tricky one today... ones I knew are in pink, ones I had to look up are green!

Hello everyone! Today is Halfway Day at the Mambo. I'll give you half of a lyric, album title, band name, etc. and you fill in the rest.
(song) I Shot the Sherriff (but I didn't shoot no deputy). Bob Marley I believe...
(band members) Charlie (Watts), Keith (Richards), Mick (Jagger) and Bill (Wyman) of the Rolling Stones
(lyric) "Why do we scream at each other . . . " This is what is sounds like when Doves Cry" - by Prince. There is also a really cool version of it on the Romeo & Juliet Soundtrack Performed by Quindon Tarver
(album title) Who's That Girl? - Madonna. It's a Soundtrack... might not be the one te creator was thinking of.
I also found:- Big Shug / Whos Hard, Who / Whos Next, Black Flag / Whos Got The 10 1/2, Funkoars / Whos Your Step Daddy & Nelly / Whos The Boss
(band members) Topper Headon, Paul Simonon. The Clash. Also Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Keith Levene and Terry Chimes. Levene was kicked out for never showing up to practice. Chimes left amicably due to personal differences with the remaining members.
(lyric) "I'm special, so special" "Gotta have some of your attention. Give it to Me" Brass in Pocket by The Pretenders.
(band) Elvis Costello and The Attractions
(song) Jamie's Got a Gun - Aerosmith (I know it should be Jane... I cheated!)

Room 101

Things you hate/loathe/dispise/don't like very much belong in Room 101. I will be regularly putting things, people, places, situations etc into Room 101, and if you decide to do the same please comment or link as appropriate as I would love to hear yours too.

The first into my Room 101 is Shaped Birthday Cakes.
I hate them with a passion!!! What is the point of spending all that time and effort in creating the perfect fluffy cake, then gouging it all out and chopping it up just so it vaguely resembles a guitar or a Pot of Macaroni & Cheese! I mean honestly, if the birthday girl like Mac&Cheese, stick a candle in her mac&cheese! Much easier! cakes are round or square... you can do so much to create a beautifully stunning cake without the need for wasting perfectly good cake!

Quirky Tuesday

Today's topic is "Pets"
  • My cat Trixie prefers to drink out of a glass that sits on my bathroom cabinet
  • My dog Charlie will only eat hot chips if they are covered in tomato sauce
  • My mum's dog Scruffy is an obsessive compulsive licker.

The Miracle of the Internet

Firstly I had a small brainwave.. I can't afford wireless broadband, but I have "invested" in "longwire" broadband. I bought an extra long ethernet cable so I can trawl the info superhighway from my bed. Amen! (Doesn't quite stretch to the sofa, which will be my ultimate goal... baby steps...)
It is probably a dangerous brainwave, and will probably be my downfall... but so far has been a very good idea (despite initial glitch when my poor puppy knocked over my hot cup of tea whilst trying to join me on the bed)

I have already been rewarded for my efforts.

In my mis-spent youth I was a fan of all things unconventional, weird and whacky. I used to be a regular reader of Deadline Magazine, featuring the then cult classic, now defunct flop, Tank Girl. I myself related to Jet Girl, but that's another story. Of all the other strips and features in that mag, my absolute fav was "Diabolical Liberty" starring......
I even cut a clipping of my favourite line and I remember having it on my wall. Long since destroyed I believe.
2 hours of internet trawling and I have finally found it. I am bloody chuffed with myself. I will go to bed happy.

oh, and 2 signs that you are addicted to blogging:-
  1. you find yourself blogging on a Saturday evening, when everyone else is out enjoying themselves!

  2. you find yourself wording your every thought and movement for the next day's blog. (I "wrote" this part in Aldi this afternoon)

Traffic Ponderings

Driving to and from work every morning means I spend a lot of time in queues of traffic... my mind wanders.. i see things.. here's a couple of random thoughts I had on recent trips....

Who Inspired who?

Had a power failure last night.. quite enjoyed it actually.. was a nice change to read a book by candlelight.. should do that more often..
anywhooo.. while on the search for matches, candles, torches etc I pondered on the following:-
why did the waterproof matches I purchased for camping come in plastic packaging??
your answers are eagerly awaited.......

Quirky Tuesday

Thought I would start my own segment... then when (if) I get regular readers they can meme it on their own blogs or just comment on here.... I'm such an optimist ;)
Quirky Tuesday will have a different topic each week, to tell everyone about a quirk / ritual / obsession / routine about that subject. As little or as many as you like if you're playing along at home. (I sound like a game show host!)
Today's topic is Food. For example:-
  • I have to eat Twix by biting off the caramel first, then biting off the chocolate surrounding the biscuit base, then dunking the biscuit into my tea. Yum!
  • I have to cut raw chicken with a knife and fork as I cannot bear to touch it. Euw!
  • I like my McFries with McFlurry. Hmmm!

Monday Meme

What... you expected me to wait until tomorrow! pah!
Here's my fav:-

Monday Music Mambo
Hello everyone. It's mambo time! Today is Kiss Your Car Day. I don't suggest you actually kiss your car, but we can talk about cars and music.

1. Name a song or two about cars or driving.
"Baby you can Drive My Car" - Beatles (lurve that song!) David Hasslehoff did a crappy rendition of "Jump in my Car" recently... erm and then there's the Cars "Drive" of course!
2. Name a song that's good to listen to when driving.
"Get your motor running... get out on the highway.... " Born to be Wild" Steppenwolf! yeah! Any song that you can belt out at the top of your lungs... no-one hears you in your car! Jason Mraz for example "The remedy"
3. Name an album that's good to listen to when driving.
I usually prefer the radio Vega 91.5fm is great for long journeys.. cause there is so much variety and always a blast from the past you haven't heard in years.. If I had to pick one though I would say Thirsty Merc... every one of the songs on their self titled album is a cracker!
4. If you could drive the car of one musician, whose car would you choose?
I'd like to drive Marc Bolan's Mini... hopefully I could keep it from driving into that tree.

Also a quickie here from Monday's a Bitch:-
Walt Disney
1. What is your favorite Disney movie?
Walt Disney's Robin Hood. My absolute Fav!
2. Have you ever dressed up or attempted to as a Disney character?
My mum and dad dressed me up as Peter Pan when I was young... for a fancy dress party of course!
3. Which Disney song do you know all the words to?
Any from Robin Hood.. I'd have a crack at a few from Jungle Book and Mary Poppins too!
4. If any Disney character could be your BFF, which one would it be?
The Genie from Aladdin. He's awesome!
5. Name as many dwarves as you can in 20 seconds. Time yourself.
Happy, Sleepy, Dopey, Doc, Sneezy, aargh! times up already! I missed Grumpy and Bashful!

Time Zones are NOT cool.

I was gunna meme this morning... went on my fav haunts to see what goodies they had in store for me... nuthin new yet...? wha???? what's going on....
Then I realised... I'm too effin early!
I keep fergettin that I am in Aus, and we get Monday first. Most of the memes I check out are from US & Canada, which means they are still enjoying their Sunday evenings, which if they are anything like mine, they are curled on the sofa watching TV with cat on lap, purring contently (yes, both of us!)
So I am gonna have to do my Monday Memes on a Tuesday... now I know why Mondays are soooo depressing... grrrrrrr
Anyhoo... I did a little wandering instead... and found this chick who struck me as kinda cool...maybe even a kindred spirit...
ciao for now xxx

Wonderful World

Something awesome happened today.
I recently started playing about on Genes Reunited website.. setting up my family tree. I wasn't all that interested at first, but the more I added, the more intrigued I became. I showed my mum and she added heaps more... it began to get kinda fun.
Today I got an e-mail to say I had a message. It turns out one of my distant relations is also on the site and found a match between my tree and his. His Father was my grandmothers Cousin.

HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!!!

who knows where this could all lead! ;) I'm excited!!!

Monday Meme

I chose 2 this week... first one from Manic Monday:-
What is your most despised household chore?
That would be ironing. I'm very lucky... my mamma still does it for me. Love ya mum!
Pick out the most important item in your wallet/purse and tell why it's important to you.
Probably my credit card... cause without it I would not be able to buy food ;)
What was your first car? What was your favorite car when you were young?
Didn't know much about cars when I was young. My first car was a red mini. Auto transmission. I called her Cherry, cause she was my first :) I used to do horrible things to her like try and drive at 100mph, go fast round corners and do hand break turns. Poor girl eventually wore out. The auto transmission had this spot between drive and reverse where it would appear in gear but not go anywhere... I once used that to get me a date with a guy... by pretending I was the hapless (helpless) girly whose car would not start. Ah those were the days!
The second is another Monday Music Mambo. I just lurve my music:-
Cutest song: Kiss me.. by Sixpence Non the Richer
Cutest band: Little Birdy
Cutest instrument: Tambourine
And finally, your nominations forKing and Queen of Cute: Missy Higgins & Jessy McCartney

Whoo Hoo!!!!

I've got an award!
Being a relatively quiet underachiever blogger I have no-one at this time to pass the honour on to.... but I assure you I will when I find someone worthy.
Thanks Lifesinger. You're the best ;)

Pronunciation (pruh-nuhn-see-ey-shuhn)

I was born in England, the common working class North of England, but it is England nevertheless. England is where English was formed, founded and surprisingly, the language was named after it. Why then do people in Australia insist on correcting MY pronunciation of words? Surely if they pronounce it differently to me, then they are wrong. If anyone should know how the English language should be spoken then it should be an English person, don't you agree??? If you were speaking Italian, or Spanish, or Chinese, you would not argue with someone native to the country on how to best speak their language... so why do you feel it acceptable for English?
Therefore if I pronouce Data as "day-ta" then that is the correct way to spell it "dar-ta" is therefore incorrect.
Vitamins therefore starts with "Vit" is in "sit" not as in "kite"
and Yoghurt starts with "Yo" as in "cog" not as in "so"
Incidently as I was doing my "research" for this blog I came across the origin of the word vitamin:-
"[Alteration of vitamine : Latin vīta, life; see gwei- in Indo-European roots + amine (so called because they were originally thought to be amines).] "
I believe this sucessfully illustrates my point. I was pronoucing the word correctly. Vita in Italian/Latin is with "iy" sound not "eye" sound.
Class dismissed!
side bar 1 - it was much easier to have this conversation in oral form that in literal form - I got my point (and my lighthearted tone) across so my easier.
side bar 2 - the correct pronounciation of scone still confuses me.. is it to rhyme with "Stone" or "Gone".... jury still out on that one ;)

Gramma Nazi

I Really REALLY hate it when people spell things wrong, or don't use the right spellings, or just simply use bad grammar.
This morning I saw a Ute with a very Bold statement on the back:-
"My Ute. My Country.
No Destination To Far."
Now excuse me for being particular, but if you are going to go to the trouble of having something emblazoned on the back of your vehicle, and drive it round for all to see... at LEAST make sure that your spelling and/or grammar is correct!
I blame it on the "txt msgs" and msn messenger (lol, lmao etc. etc.) People don't feel the need to get the spelling right or construct proper sentences. As long as the other person understands then it doesn't seem to matter anymore.
There's also the fact that people are rushing around, other things on their minds.. too busy to spell check or read through.
And yes I know I spelled (spelt) Grammar wrong in the title.. it's supposed to be funny/ironic. Oh nevermind!

War on E-mail Virus

Most people can sensibly avoid nasty e-mail worms, trojans and viruses... either by their super high tech (and sometimes over the top) firewalls and internet security, or by just common sense, i.e not opening dodgy looking e-mails.
But there is a worse virus about. The Virus of the mind. Those annoying e-mails you get promising 15 years of good luck if you send the e-mail to 20,000 people, or threatening no sex ever if you don't send to 5,000 people in 2 nanoseconds. Then of course there are those that I have mentioned before... the ones that propogate lies, conspiracies and old wives tales.
Well, here is the solution. Jeez, wish I'd thought of it before :-p

Monday Meme

This week it is from BlogdriveInsanity. Here Goes:-
Choose one song for each artist:
1. Joni Mitchell - Gotta be "Big Yellow Taxi". Love the Counting Crows version of it too.
2. Bryan Adams - "(I Wanna Be) Your Underwear". Very cheesy lyrics. Makes me laugh. From the Album 18 till I Die.
3. Neil Young - I'm probably a bit "Young" for this. Had to download as didn't know any songs. "Ride my Llama" sounds kinda interesting, but I'll go with "Keep on Rocking in the Free World" - cause I hearda that one :)
4. Sarah McLachlan - "Fallen." Simply Beautiful
5. The Band - Sorry, don't know any and couldn't find any in my share library to download. I did find KC & the Sunshine Band "Play that Funky Music" that's pretty cool... will that do?
6. Barenaked Ladies - "If I had a million dollars" from the album Gordon, or Rock Spectacle. Funny Lyrics again :)
7. Leonard Cohen - "Everybody Knows". Fell in love with it after the movie Pump up the Volume.
8. k.d. lang - Sorry, don't like any of hers
9. Alanis Morrisette - "You Oughta Know" - Fiesty!
10. Rush - "Working Man" - yep all 7 minutes of it!
Jeez, this one really tested me. Remind me to stick to an easy one next time!

Pappa's Coming!

Just had it confirmed... My dad is coming over from the UK to see me. He'll be in Melbourne from 19th until 28th September.. in time for my son's birthday. I haven't seen him for 5 years.

As a matter of interest for those random bloggers, my Dad lives in Sheffield, England. If you ever feel like visiting, check this out.

Just read my own wikipedia link... and found some stuff out I didn't know about my own home town!!! The wonder of the internet eh?!

It's Monday!

I have chosen this site for my Monday thoughts... it's the only one I found that had simple but interesting questions.
This weeks is 5 favourite dishes
1. Ravioli Al Forno
YUM! It has to be from Narre Warren Pizza shop though. Yummy melted cheese, decadent pasta and the occasional fresh burst of snow pea. I'm drooling already. This recipe sounds like a nice alternative.
2. "Uncle" Tony's Curry Puffs
I love all Indian Food, but my brother in law's father (which is certainly distinct from being my father-in-law) makes yummy curry puffs. You can never stop at just one. Sometimes he skimps on the filling, but I forgive him! This recipe sounds similar.
3. My Home Made Lasagna
Even if I do say so myself! You can ask me for the recipe if you like, and I'm happy to share, but in practice it changes every time I make it. Even better the day after!
4. Toad In the Hole
This is my heritage dish. It is basically sausages cooked in Yorkshire Pudding. Best served with Onion Gravy, mashed potato and garden peas. Great heart warming winter food. Here's a recipe.
5. Fish In Parsley Sauce
This is my healthy favourite. Serve with mash to collect the sauce, green beans and sweetcorn.

Advertisers have NO Common Sense!

I saw the new Kang Tong advert last night... irritably catchy jingle, Chinese family opening the jar of chinese simmer sauces and tucking in to a delicious feast... hmmmmm. (I couldn't find the advert I am talking about on the Tube, but this one is a similar principle)

I had a thought when this came on.... similar to one I had with the Dolmio ad... you know, the one where the annoying "Italian" Muppet show type puppets cook their delicious bolognese from the simmer sauces. (Again can't find the originals, but these are the Scottish versions!)

My query is this.... Why would a chinese family use a jar of chinese sauce? Why would an Italian family use ready made bolognese sauce? These are families steeped in history and tradition, whose recipes would be handed down through the generations. The ancestors would turn in their graves if they knew that their decendants were stooping so low as to use convenience food, instead of putting the love and care into freshly grown ingredients as they did in years gone by..

These sauces are designed for people like me, who have no heritage in chinese or Italian cooking. Show people like me in these adverts please.... that would make much more sense to me!

The Secret

Everyone has an opinion on the new revelation, "the Secret" - which incidently is not a new revelation at all, but just a new draft of the same principles that all self help books have. I was reading Corporate Alien's latest opinion on the subject. I felt the need to comment, but I find it very hard to put into words why people such as CA feel that self help books and the law of attraction "does not work"

These books are not magic tricks, quick fixes or the solution to all problems. It seems the majority of people that buy these books are looking for a miracle, and expect that reading a few chapters will be the answer to all their prayers. It is not as simple as that. The reason people like Rhonda Byrne are so successful and achieve what they set out to do is that they are not afraid of hard work. They are not prepared to accept that what life throws at them is their lot and that is that.. end of story. They are prepared to do whatever it takes to change, to achieve, to get results. Most importantly they have a positive attitude, and are determined.

I am afraid I am guilty of expecting everything for nothing. I truly admire these people that have the courage, determination, motivation and strength to go for what they want. It is a full time, non-stop, 24 hour toil to achieve, and whilst I too have dreams, I obviously don't want them enough as I simply don't seem to be able to give them the effort they truly deserve.

If you want something desperately enough, you will do anything to get it, and I do believe that it will happen. Negative articles like CA's are just more proof that being cynical will not get you lifes desires...

Doin The Do

Isn't it amazing what you find when you are looking for answers to trivia questions.. I have always wondered what happened to Betty Boo

I knew all the words to her most famous hit, "Doin the Do" What a sad little kid I musta been!

I have Nothing...

I wanted to blog this morning but had nothing to write about. Except my hair. I have had my hair cut. Major change. Fringe I never had before and I've gone from non descript brown to vibrant red. I don't have a pic tho for you... Maybe get the courage up to post pics soon.

When I have more time I will find a cool Meme site for ideas of what to post on Mondays. Make a regular Monday slot. Need something cool to do to kick start the week.

Until then.... rambling will have to do... oh, except you can check this out if you like, if you haven't already.. it was on blogs of note so you probably have..... oh well!

You Can't Handle the Truth!

We've all had them... those "chain" e-mails that give you those amazing stories, facts and figures that are almost to good to be true. Or those warnings of the latest goings on in the world of criminals and master scammers, or those heart wrenching tales of sorrow with cries for help...

.... but how do you know they are really true, or just some crazy ramblings of a person with nothing better to do than to try and trick the world into believing something extraordinary.

The guys at Snopes will tell ya. They are using their spare time for good instead of evil... tracking down the truth behind the rumours. They will tell you whether a tooth left in coke will really disappear, or whether it is true that a woman who wrote to her soldier boyfriend asking for her photo back got sent a box of photos and was asked to pick hers out and send the rest back.

Wonder No More!

The Shirt off your back

I love T'shirts. Especially ones with funky designs. I love them with witty comments too. It can have its drawbacks though. I was once wearing an FCUK T-shirt which just had the words "Je Suis Horny" on it. I was with my mum and my then 4 year old son, and I was buying a sandwich. I had the entire sandwich shop coming over to have a look at my chest. Not nice.
Now I am a mother, and in my 30's, it was "suggested" by my family that I was perhaps getting a bit old to wear provocative and "funky" T-shirts. I was mortified. Why is it a T-Shirt with a skull and cross bones is only fitting for a tweeny????
I settle for buying cool designs for my BF and my son.

Here's a handy little site that I came across. Enjoy!

I'm Back!!!

I'm coming back. I missed this. I got a bit defeated when I realised no-one was reading my blog. I thought no-one loved me.
But then I realised it don't matter anyways. I have this space to vent, to rant hysterically and if people wanna read it they can and if they don't well at least I got it off my mind, and I might be one step closer to sanity (or complete madness.. whatever!)
I keep sending myself e-mails with links to cool sites that I think I wanna check out someday.. what i should be doing is posting them here.. people might just stumble across this and think "hey, this bunny is pretty weird and her rantings are delusional, but the site she linked to was pretty cool!"
That's enough for me!
My posts will be erratic, misinformed and complete drivel, but they'll be here... I promise.

Oh, and you can thank Lifesinger for my return. SHE MISSED ME! Someone across the other side of the world missed me. Brought a tear to my eye I can tell you! Lifesinger... you made me feel special, you made me feel loved... and for that I will always be grateful.
