Quirky Tuesday

Thought I would start my own segment... then when (if) I get regular readers they can meme it on their own blogs or just comment on here.... I'm such an optimist ;)
Quirky Tuesday will have a different topic each week, to tell everyone about a quirk / ritual / obsession / routine about that subject. As little or as many as you like if you're playing along at home. (I sound like a game show host!)
Today's topic is Food. For example:-
  • I have to eat Twix by biting off the caramel first, then biting off the chocolate surrounding the biscuit base, then dunking the biscuit into my tea. Yum!
  • I have to cut raw chicken with a knife and fork as I cannot bear to touch it. Euw!
  • I like my McFries with McFlurry. Hmmm!

Monday Meme

What... you expected me to wait until tomorrow! pah!
Here's my fav:-

Monday Music Mambo
Hello everyone. It's mambo time! Today is Kiss Your Car Day. I don't suggest you actually kiss your car, but we can talk about cars and music.

1. Name a song or two about cars or driving.
"Baby you can Drive My Car" - Beatles (lurve that song!) David Hasslehoff did a crappy rendition of "Jump in my Car" recently... erm and then there's the Cars "Drive" of course!
2. Name a song that's good to listen to when driving.
"Get your motor running... get out on the highway.... " Born to be Wild" Steppenwolf! yeah! Any song that you can belt out at the top of your lungs... no-one hears you in your car! Jason Mraz for example "The remedy"
3. Name an album that's good to listen to when driving.
I usually prefer the radio Vega 91.5fm is great for long journeys.. cause there is so much variety and always a blast from the past you haven't heard in years.. If I had to pick one though I would say Thirsty Merc... every one of the songs on their self titled album is a cracker!
4. If you could drive the car of one musician, whose car would you choose?
I'd like to drive Marc Bolan's Mini... hopefully I could keep it from driving into that tree.

Also a quickie here from Monday's a Bitch:-
Walt Disney
1. What is your favorite Disney movie?
Walt Disney's Robin Hood. My absolute Fav!
2. Have you ever dressed up or attempted to as a Disney character?
My mum and dad dressed me up as Peter Pan when I was young... for a fancy dress party of course!
3. Which Disney song do you know all the words to?
Any from Robin Hood.. I'd have a crack at a few from Jungle Book and Mary Poppins too!
4. If any Disney character could be your BFF, which one would it be?
The Genie from Aladdin. He's awesome!
5. Name as many dwarves as you can in 20 seconds. Time yourself.
Happy, Sleepy, Dopey, Doc, Sneezy, aargh! times up already! I missed Grumpy and Bashful!

Time Zones are NOT cool.

I was gunna meme this morning... went on my fav haunts to see what goodies they had in store for me... nuthin new yet...? wha???? what's going on....
Then I realised... I'm too effin early!
I keep fergettin that I am in Aus, and we get Monday first. Most of the memes I check out are from US & Canada, which means they are still enjoying their Sunday evenings, which if they are anything like mine, they are curled on the sofa watching TV with cat on lap, purring contently (yes, both of us!)
So I am gonna have to do my Monday Memes on a Tuesday... now I know why Mondays are soooo depressing... grrrrrrr
Anyhoo... I did a little wandering instead... and found this chick who struck me as kinda cool...maybe even a kindred spirit...
ciao for now xxx

Wonderful World

Something awesome happened today.
I recently started playing about on Genes Reunited website.. setting up my family tree. I wasn't all that interested at first, but the more I added, the more intrigued I became. I showed my mum and she added heaps more... it began to get kinda fun.
Today I got an e-mail to say I had a message. It turns out one of my distant relations is also on the site and found a match between my tree and his. His Father was my grandmothers Cousin.

HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!!!

who knows where this could all lead! ;) I'm excited!!!

Monday Meme

I chose 2 this week... first one from Manic Monday:-
What is your most despised household chore?
That would be ironing. I'm very lucky... my mamma still does it for me. Love ya mum!
Pick out the most important item in your wallet/purse and tell why it's important to you.
Probably my credit card... cause without it I would not be able to buy food ;)
What was your first car? What was your favorite car when you were young?
Didn't know much about cars when I was young. My first car was a red mini. Auto transmission. I called her Cherry, cause she was my first :) I used to do horrible things to her like try and drive at 100mph, go fast round corners and do hand break turns. Poor girl eventually wore out. The auto transmission had this spot between drive and reverse where it would appear in gear but not go anywhere... I once used that to get me a date with a guy... by pretending I was the hapless (helpless) girly whose car would not start. Ah those were the days!
The second is another Monday Music Mambo. I just lurve my music:-
Cutest song: Kiss me.. by Sixpence Non the Richer
Cutest band: Little Birdy
Cutest instrument: Tambourine
And finally, your nominations forKing and Queen of Cute: Missy Higgins & Jessy McCartney

Whoo Hoo!!!!

I've got an award!
Being a relatively quiet underachiever blogger I have no-one at this time to pass the honour on to.... but I assure you I will when I find someone worthy.
Thanks Lifesinger. You're the best ;)

Pronunciation (pruh-nuhn-see-ey-shuhn)

I was born in England, the common working class North of England, but it is England nevertheless. England is where English was formed, founded and surprisingly, the language was named after it. Why then do people in Australia insist on correcting MY pronunciation of words? Surely if they pronounce it differently to me, then they are wrong. If anyone should know how the English language should be spoken then it should be an English person, don't you agree??? If you were speaking Italian, or Spanish, or Chinese, you would not argue with someone native to the country on how to best speak their language... so why do you feel it acceptable for English?
Therefore if I pronouce Data as "day-ta" then that is the correct way to spell it "dar-ta" is therefore incorrect.
Vitamins therefore starts with "Vit" is in "sit" not as in "kite"
and Yoghurt starts with "Yo" as in "cog" not as in "so"
Incidently as I was doing my "research" for this blog I came across the origin of the word vitamin:-
"[Alteration of vitamine : Latin vīta, life; see gwei- in Indo-European roots + amine (so called because they were originally thought to be amines).] "
I believe this sucessfully illustrates my point. I was pronoucing the word correctly. Vita in Italian/Latin is with "iy" sound not "eye" sound.
Class dismissed!
side bar 1 - it was much easier to have this conversation in oral form that in literal form - I got my point (and my lighthearted tone) across so my easier.
side bar 2 - the correct pronounciation of scone still confuses me.. is it to rhyme with "Stone" or "Gone".... jury still out on that one ;)

Gramma Nazi

I Really REALLY hate it when people spell things wrong, or don't use the right spellings, or just simply use bad grammar.
This morning I saw a Ute with a very Bold statement on the back:-
"My Ute. My Country.
No Destination To Far."
Now excuse me for being particular, but if you are going to go to the trouble of having something emblazoned on the back of your vehicle, and drive it round for all to see... at LEAST make sure that your spelling and/or grammar is correct!
I blame it on the "txt msgs" and msn messenger (lol, lmao etc. etc.) People don't feel the need to get the spelling right or construct proper sentences. As long as the other person understands then it doesn't seem to matter anymore.
There's also the fact that people are rushing around, other things on their minds.. too busy to spell check or read through.
And yes I know I spelled (spelt) Grammar wrong in the title.. it's supposed to be funny/ironic. Oh nevermind!

War on E-mail Virus

Most people can sensibly avoid nasty e-mail worms, trojans and viruses... either by their super high tech (and sometimes over the top) firewalls and internet security, or by just common sense, i.e not opening dodgy looking e-mails.
But there is a worse virus about. The Virus of the mind. Those annoying e-mails you get promising 15 years of good luck if you send the e-mail to 20,000 people, or threatening no sex ever if you don't send to 5,000 people in 2 nanoseconds. Then of course there are those that I have mentioned before... the ones that propogate lies, conspiracies and old wives tales.
Well, here is the solution. Jeez, wish I'd thought of it before :-p

Monday Meme

This week it is from BlogdriveInsanity. Here Goes:-
Choose one song for each artist:
1. Joni Mitchell - Gotta be "Big Yellow Taxi". Love the Counting Crows version of it too.
2. Bryan Adams - "(I Wanna Be) Your Underwear". Very cheesy lyrics. Makes me laugh. From the Album 18 till I Die.
3. Neil Young - I'm probably a bit "Young" for this. Had to download as didn't know any songs. "Ride my Llama" sounds kinda interesting, but I'll go with "Keep on Rocking in the Free World" - cause I hearda that one :)
4. Sarah McLachlan - "Fallen." Simply Beautiful
5. The Band - Sorry, don't know any and couldn't find any in my share library to download. I did find KC & the Sunshine Band "Play that Funky Music" that's pretty cool... will that do?
6. Barenaked Ladies - "If I had a million dollars" from the album Gordon, or Rock Spectacle. Funny Lyrics again :)
7. Leonard Cohen - "Everybody Knows". Fell in love with it after the movie Pump up the Volume.
8. k.d. lang - Sorry, don't like any of hers
9. Alanis Morrisette - "You Oughta Know" - Fiesty!
10. Rush - "Working Man" - yep all 7 minutes of it!
Jeez, this one really tested me. Remind me to stick to an easy one next time!

Just had it confirmed... My dad is coming over from the UK to see me. He'll be in Melbourne from 19th until 28th September.. in time for my son's birthday. I haven't seen him for 5 years.

As a matter of interest for those random bloggers, my Dad lives in Sheffield, England. If you ever feel like visiting, check this out.

Just read my own wikipedia link... and found some stuff out I didn't know about my own home town!!! The wonder of the internet eh?!

It's Monday!

I have chosen this site for my Monday thoughts... it's the only one I found that had simple but interesting questions.
This weeks is 5 favourite dishes
1. Ravioli Al Forno
YUM! It has to be from Narre Warren Pizza shop though. Yummy melted cheese, decadent pasta and the occasional fresh burst of snow pea. I'm drooling already. This recipe sounds like a nice alternative.
2. "Uncle" Tony's Curry Puffs
I love all Indian Food, but my brother in law's father (which is certainly distinct from being my father-in-law) makes yummy curry puffs. You can never stop at just one. Sometimes he skimps on the filling, but I forgive him! This recipe sounds similar.
3. My Home Made Lasagna
Even if I do say so myself! You can ask me for the recipe if you like, and I'm happy to share, but in practice it changes every time I make it. Even better the day after!
4. Toad In the Hole
This is my heritage dish. It is basically sausages cooked in Yorkshire Pudding. Best served with Onion Gravy, mashed potato and garden peas. Great heart warming winter food. Here's a recipe.
5. Fish In Parsley Sauce
This is my healthy favourite. Serve with mash to collect the sauce, green beans and sweetcorn.
